About

Agile Robots SE is a Munich-based leader in AI-driven robotics and automation, founded in 2018 as a spin-off from the German Aerospace Center (DLR) by Dr. Zhaopeng Chen and Peter Meusel alongside eight fellow DLR experts. The company combines artificial intelligence with physical robotics to deliver next-generation automation solutions for the automotive, electronics, healthcare, and service industries. Its product portfolio spans force-sensitive robotic arms (Diana 7, Thor series), dexterous robotic hands (Agile Hand), mobile robotics, and the Agile ONE — its industrial humanoid robot unveiled in November 2025. The company also develops AgileCore, its AI software stack underpinning all products.

Agile Robots has grown rapidly through a combination of organic development and strategic acquisitions, bringing Franka Robotics, idealworks (a BMW Group spin-off), BÄR Automation, and Krause Automation (formerly thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering) under its umbrella. With over 3,200 employees and production facilities spanning Germany, the USA, China, and India, the company has deployed more than 20,000 automation solutions worldwide. CEO Zhaopeng Chen reported approximately €300 million in revenue for 2025, with expectations to double in 2026.

The company achieved unicorn status in September 2021 following a $220 million Series C led by SoftBank Vision Fund 2, making it Germany's first robotics unicorn. As of mid-2026, Agile Robots is reported to be in advanced discussions for a new approximately $800 million funding round with SoftBank expected to contribute more than $300 million. Strategic partnerships include Google DeepMind (Gemini Robotics integration), NVIDIA and Deutsche Telekom (Industrial AI Cloud anchor customer), and Hitachi (Physical AI for manufacturing).
