Synthetic battlefields to train defence AI

About

Agon is a London-based defence technology startup building synthetic combat arenas — virtual battlefields where AI-powered autonomous weapons and counter-drone systems train against realistic, adaptive adversaries modelled on live conflict intelligence. The platform compresses AI development cycles that would otherwise require expensive and logistically constrained live-fire exercises, letting autonomous systems iterate at machine speed against threat models drawn from real-world battlefield data.

Founded in early 2026 by CEO Tristam Constant (13 years in the British Army, former Senior Director for Europe at Anduril Industries, former head of European defence at Applied Intuition) and co-founder Junaid Hussain (co-founder of defence unicorn Cambridge Aerospace and Google-backed AI gaming company Iconic), the company positions itself as sovereign European training infrastructure for defence AI. Unity Technologies founder David Helgason serves as chairman. The broader team brings experience from Anduril, Applied Intuition, Helsing, Palantir, Google, Amazon, and Unity.

Agon's platform enables defence companies, AI developers, and government evaluators to design, train, stress-test, and continuously improve autonomous capabilities — spanning counter-drone operations, uncrewed vehicles, and multi-domain autonomous systems — at a fidelity and scale no physical range can match. The company has signed initial partnerships with European defence autonomy companies, though no customers have been named publicly. It operates out of London and a second office in Berlin, targeting European militaries, defence primes, and AI developers seeking sovereign AI training infrastructure.
