About
Alice & Bob is a Paris- and Boston-based quantum computing company founded in February 2020 by Dr. Théau Peronnin and Dr. Raphaël Lescanne, both graduates of ENS Paris and ENS de Lyon. The company's core technology is the "cat qubit," a superconducting qubit architecture that inherently suppresses bit-flip errors at the hardware level, dramatically reducing the overhead required for quantum error correction. Alice & Bob estimates this approach can reduce hardware requirements for building a useful large-scale quantum computer by up to 200 times compared to competing architectures.
The company is building toward a universal, fault-tolerant quantum computer targeting 100 logical qubits by 2030. In June 2026, Alice & Bob unveiled its first complete quantum computing system, the Helium Quantum System, an on-premise platform engineered to encode a logical qubit using just 18 cat qubits. The system integrates with high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure via Slurm and is being offered to research partners for collaboration on fault-tolerant quantum computing.
Alice & Bob has been selected by DARPA for its Quantum Benchmarking Initiative (QBI) and is one of five participants in France's €500 million PROQCIMA program, launched by the French Ministry of Armed Forces to deliver a fault-tolerant quantum computer by 2030. The company is also collaborating with NVIDIA through CUDA-Q, cuQuantum, and NVQLink as part of a hybrid quantum-classical HPC strategy. Advised by Nobel Prize-winning researchers, the company has grown to over 250 employees across four offices and has raised €180 million in total funding.
