Automated 3D tissue braiding for robotics

About

Allonic is a Budapest-headquartered (with a joint US HQ) robotics hardware startup founded in 2021 by Benedek Tasi, Dávid László Pelyva, and David Holló. The company has developed a proprietary manufacturing platform called 3D Tissue Braiding, which replaces the traditional manual assembly of hundreds of precision components by weaving structural fibers, tendons, joints, and load-bearing tissues directly over a 3D-printed skeletal core — producing fully functional robotic bodies in a single, fully automated process.

Allonic's platform combines proprietary braiding machinery with CAD/CAM software that translates high-level robotic designs into production instructions, similar to how slicers prepare 3D printing files. Multiple materials — including elastics, wiring, and sensing elements — can be embedded directly during the braiding process, yielding complex, compliant, bio-inspired robotic structures without any post-assembly. The approach delivers high load-bearing strength, uniform stress distribution, and no weak points at junctions or material interfaces.

The company's second-generation machinery is reported to be 5× faster, 2× smaller, and with 3× greater yarn-count resolution than its predecessor. Allonic has completed its first pilot in electronics manufacturing and reports strong inbound interest from the humanoid robotics sector and large consumer technology companies. With a team of ~15 engineers, it is targeting further pilots and early commercial deployments with industrial partners.
