About

Alta Ares is a French defense technology company founded in 2024 that builds a vertically integrated, autonomous AI platform for air defense and ISTAR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition, and Reconnaissance). Its combat-proven systems have been deployed in Ukraine since 2024 and are used by allied militaries from the Baltic frontier to the Indo-Pacific. The company was shaped by direct operational experience on the battlefield and is headquartered in Paris, with offices in Toulouse, Kyiv, Abu Dhabi, New York, and Athens.

The Alta Ares platform spans three layers: kinetic effectors, an ISTAR product suite, and mission management software. Its hardware portfolio includes the Black Bird — a turbojet-powered fixed-wing interceptor for mid- to long-range engagement of drones and glide bombs at up to 670 km/h over 30 km — and the X-Lock, a multirotor interceptor for short-range swarm engagement. On the software side, Pixel Lock provides AI-powered terminal guidance under jamming for interceptor UAVs, Gamma delivers real-time edge-AI video intelligence for ISTAR missions, and Cyclops handles sensor fusion, mission planning, and UAV flight monitoring. All systems are designed to operate in GNSS-denied, electronically contested environments without cloud connectivity.

Alta Ares has rapidly grown to approximately 90 employees and achieved 40× revenue growth in 2025. The company raised a €50M Series A in June 2026 led by Air Street Capital, followed by a strategic equity investment from Airbus Defence and Space via the E2D defence fund. Major industrial partnerships include an MoU with Airbus to integrate Alta Ares systems into Airbus' Fortion IBMS battle management suite, a DGA-backed ELISA innovation partnership with MBDA targeting production of several hundred interceptors per month from early 2027, and an MoU with Ukraine's General Cherry to embed Pixel Lock AI guidance into the Bullet interceptor drone.
