About
AnaCardio AB is a privately held, clinical-stage Swedish biopharmaceutical company developing novel drugs to treat heart failure. It was founded on research from Karolinska Institutet led by Professor Lars Lund. Its lead candidate AC01 is a first-in-class oral ghrelin receptor (GHSR1a) agonist, in-licensed from Helsinn in 2022, designed to increase cardiac contractility without the tachycardia, arrhythmia, ischemia or hypotension associated with intravenous inotropes.
The Phase 1b/2a GOAL-HF1 study in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction showed a favourable safety profile and sustained improvements in cardiac function, including a 22% increase in cardiac output and a 4.8 percentage point improvement in ejection fraction after four weeks of treatment. Results were published in The Lancet in June 2026. In September 2026 the company closed a €62.5M Series B, co-led by Novo Holdings and the Ljungström family office, to fully fund the roughly 400-patient Phase 2b GOAL-HF2 study across about 100 sites in 12 countries, with the aim of reaching Phase 3 readiness by 2028.
AnaCardio reports positive scientific advice from the FDA and EMA and holds patents for AC01, including a US patent extending protection into the 2040s. Its headquarters are at Innomedicum in Solna, Stockholm.
