Cell-free enzyme reactors for chemicals

About

Anzen Industries is a London-based biomanufacturing company founded in 2025 that produces high-value chemicals using cell-free enzyme systems. Rather than relying on plant extraction, fermentation of living cells or traditional chemical synthesis, its platform uses isolated, immobilised enzymes in small, modular, reusable enzyme reactors that operate outside living cells, combined with AI-driven enzyme design. The chemicals are aimed at markets such as cosmetics, fragrances, food, materials and pharmaceuticals.

The company was founded by Amy Locks, who serves as CEO, and Pedro Lovatt Garcia, its CTO. Both are scientists, and Locks previously worked as a researcher at Pfizer and AstraZeneca. The company was formerly known as Immobilase and has since rebranded as Tera, with its website now located at tera.inc.

In January 2026 Anzen Industries raised a $2.2 million pre-seed round led by LocalGlobe and Creator Fund, with participation from angel investors. The funding is intended to support a move of operations to the United States, including establishing a first manufacturing facility in California, and to pursue industrial collaborations and partnerships. The founders have since relocated to San Francisco.
