About
AQEMIA is a Paris-based techbio company that combines atomic-scale physics with generative AI to design drug candidates. It originated from over 12 years of academic research in theoretical physics at CNRS, Ecole Normale Supérieure, and the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, and it has published more than 40 peer-reviewed papers. Its proprietary deep physics algorithms are designed to predict drug-target affinities without requiring experimental training data for each program, and generative AI is used to design novel molecules. The company describes its platform, QEMI, as able to produce physics-level predictions up to 10,000 times faster than conventional methods.
AQEMIA is building both wholly owned and partnered drug discovery programs across multiple therapeutic areas, with a particular focus on oncology. Its stated goal is to scale drug discovery efficiently and to address unmet medical needs. The company says its platform has been validated through internal preclinical programs and pharmaceutical partnerships.
In December 2024 AQEMIA raised $38M led by Cathay Innovation, bringing its cumulative funding past $100M, and announced an expansion starting with London. The funding is intended to support preparations for clinical trials. The company was founded in 2019 and has offices in Paris and London.
