About

Ascent Lumina is a Latvian deep-tech startup founded in 2023 that develops AI-powered computer vision and synthetic data generation technologies for unmanned and autonomous systems. The company's core product is a proprietary pipeline for generating realistic, annotated RGB and thermal (infrared) synthetic image datasets used to train robust AI perception models — enabling edge-deployed object detection and classification without relying heavily on scarce real-world training data.

The company targets primarily the European defence market, supplying AI vision solutions for drones, unmanned ground vehicles, and other uncrewed platforms. Its lightweight neural networks are optimised for deployment on edge computing devices, processing both RGB and thermal camera feeds in real time to enhance situational awareness and reduce operator cognitive load. An ongoing R&D project, backed by a Latvian Ministry of Defence grant (signed September 2024), focuses on automatic ground and aerial target identification in flight using machine vision.

Ascent Lumina has demonstrated operational relevance at NATO's Digital Backbone Experimentation (DiBaX) 2025 exercise in Ādaži, Latvia, alongside Thales, Nokia, and Ericsson. In May 2025, the company was selected as one of 20 companies for the inaugural cohort of the European Commission's EUDIS Business Accelerator, receiving a €65,000 non-dilutive seed voucher and eight months of tailored defence-industry support. The company is also a member of MilTech Latvia and the Latvian Electrical Engineering and Electronics Industry Cluster (LETERA).
