About
Atrogi AB is a biotechnology company headquartered in Solna, near Stockholm, Sweden. It develops oral small molecules that target β2-adrenergic receptor signalling in skeletal muscle. Its platform uses GRK2-biased β2-adrenergic modulators intended to switch on muscle metabolism, including glucose uptake and mTORC2-linked signalling, while avoiding the cardiac signalling associated with conventional β2 agonists. The company was founded in 2013, and its mechanism of action was published in the journal Cell in 2025.
The lead candidate, ATR-258, is an oral once-daily compound. Its Phase I programme covered single and multiple ascending doses, a 28-day cohort in people with type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular safety assessment, with 69 subjects dosed. In March 2026 first subjects were dosed in a human muscle-physiology study in overweight men. In an eight-week open-label study in 13 adults with overweight or obesity, reported in October 2026, ATR-258 increased lower-extremity muscle power by about 13%, increased lean mass by 0.8 kg and reduced fat mass, and was well tolerated. A Phase II programme is planned for 2027. Pipeline programmes target obesity as an add-on to GLP-1 therapy, skeletal muscle health and sarcopenia, and facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD), the latter supported by a €3M Eurostars programme called STAMINA. Other programmes include ATR-339 for obesity and next-generation compounds for muscle wasting, Duchenne muscular dystrophy and FSHD.
The management team is led by CEO Paul Little, who previously served as CEO of Vesper Bio, and includes CMO Anna-Maria Langkilde, formerly of AstraZeneca. Investors include Flerie, which holds about 47% of the company, and Korea Investment Partners, which was an anchor investor in a SEK 90M rights issue completed in 2020. More than €24M has been raised from investors since inception, alongside more than €1.5M in non-dilutive grants from Eurostars and SWELife. The company holds more than 40 granted patents.
