About
Aurora Propulsion Technologies is a Finnish space propulsion company founded in 2018 and based in Espoo, with its laboratory and primary production facility at Otaniemi. It makes plug-and-play, ITAR-free propulsion modules for CubeSats and small satellites up to about 300 kg, including the ARM family of water-based resistojet thrusters for attitude control and collision avoidance and the Plasma Brake electrodynamic-style deorbiting device for end-of-life disposal.
The company's products have flown on AuroraSat-1 (launched May 2022 by Rocket Lab, built with SatRev), Strider (a 2023 demonstration with Aliena), EstCube-2, the C3S Wisdom satellite (four ARM-C thrusters and a Plasma Brake, launched November 2025), and Foresail-1p. Further deliveries include SpeQtral-1, JinjuSat-2 and a 1U ARM-O system for a South Asian customer. Aurora positions its offer for satellite integrators, satellite operators and defence customers, citing European supply chain sovereignty. It has signed a letter of intent with OHB System AG (March 2026) and partnered with OKAPI:Orbits on collision avoidance.
Aurora reports first commercial propulsion sales in 2025, with its own year-in-review citing about €1M revenue. It was accepted into the ESA BIC Finland programme in 2019, received EIC Accelerator grant funding in 2023, joined the EIC Scaling Club and the CASSINI Business Accelerator, and has a patent granted in the United States for manufacturing the Plasma Brake.
