About

Axelera AI is a semiconductor company based in Eindhoven, Netherlands, that develops hardware and software platforms for AI inference at the edge and in data centers. The company was founded in July 2021 by Fabrizio Del Maffeo and Evangelos Eleftheriou, with a founding team drawn from IBM, ETH Zurich, imec, Bitfury, Google and Qualcomm. It was incubated within Bitfury Group and built on research from imec and IBM Research Zurich.

Its products are built on proprietary digital in-memory computing (D-IMC), which performs computation inside SRAM, and a RISC-V controlled dataflow architecture. The Metis AIPU family spans M.2 modules, PCIe cards and single-board computers for embedded and edge deployments, and the Europa second-generation architecture, launched in September 2026, targets enterprise and data center inference. Titania is a scalable AI inference chiplet developed under an EU-funded European HPC project. The company sells the Voyager SDK, a model zoo and the Voyager Wingman AI development assistant, and supports a Partner Accelerator Network that includes systems makers such as Dell, Advantech, Lenovo and Supermicro.

Axelera AI serves customers in industrial manufacturing, retail, security, healthcare, smart cities, agriculture, space, robotics and defense. The company reported more than 500 customers in early 2026 and began volume production in late 2024. It has offices in Belgium, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Italy and the United States, and it has raised more than $450 million in equity, grants and venture debt.
