About

Basecamp Research trains frontier AI biological foundation models for therapeutic design, with the goal of reprogramming the body to repair itself. Its core asset, EDEN — a 28-billion parameter model — is trained on the Trillion Gene Atlas, the world's largest proprietary biological AI training dataset comprising over 100 billion novel genes collected through biodiversity partnerships across more than 30 countries on all seven continents. EDEN's capabilities span antibiotic design, antigen immunogenicity prediction, gene insertion, gene editing, and peptide design, two of which are accessible via Anthropic's Claude Science platform.

Founded in 2019 by two Oxford graduates, Glen Gowers and Oliver Vince, who pioneered the first off-grid DNA sequencing expedition on Iceland's Vatnajökull ice cap, the company has since built one of the most distinctive biological data moats in the industry. Its data is sourced via access and benefit-sharing partnerships with institutions across every continent, making it both scientifically differentiated and ethically grounded.

Basecamp Research is now rapidly advancing a pipeline of EDEN-designed therapeutics towards clinical development, with a primary focus on in vivo cell therapy — reprogramming a patient's cells inside the body using programmable gene insertion (PGI). The company has demonstrated strong preclinical results across multiple modalities, including efficacy against WHO-priority drug-resistant pathogens. Headquartered in London with labs in Cambridge, MA, Basecamp Research is valued at $800M following its September 2026 Series C and has raised approximately $220M in total.
