About
BESPIN Technologies GmbH is a Munich-based deep-tech startup developing a recoverable stratospheric aircraft — a "stratocraft" — that operates at 18–20 km altitude for months at a time. Using a patented hybrid architecture that combines lighter-than-air lift with heavier-than-air flight, the platform reads and rides the wind to hold its position over a target region, carries interchangeable payloads, and returns to base to be reflown. This positions BESPIN in the "near-space" layer between short-endurance drones (below 6 km) and low-Earth-orbit satellites (above 400 km), offering satellite-like persistence at far shorter range and with greater resolution.
The platform is designed for dual-use missions including defence ISR, border and infrastructure surveillance, connectivity for unserved regions, climate and environmental monitoring, and disaster response. Customers bring their own sensors or fly BESPIN's, and BESPIN operates the mission end-to-end — telemetry, interfacing, and data delivery into the customer's own systems — offered as a Mission-as-a-Service or Platform-as-a-Service model.
Founded in January 2026 by Dr. Srinivas J. Setty, a space-industry veteran previously co-founder of Vyoma and General Manager at NorthStar Earth & Space, BESPIN is rooted in research at Bundeswehr University Munich. The company is pre-seed funded, has been selected for ESA BIC Bavaria (one of three admitted out of 80+ applicants), and is a member of TUM Venture Labs Aerospace & Defense, backed by Europe's leading deep-tech incubation programmes.
