About
Black Forest Systems (legal entity BFSys OÜ, registered in Tallinn, Estonia, with its team based in Kyiv, Ukraine) develops autonomous systems, robotic platforms and high-performance electronics for ground and air systems. The company was founded in July 2024 by CEO Oleksandr Davydenko, previously hardware acceleration program lead for Ukraine's Brave1 initiative, and CTO Alex Winter.
Its flagship product is SHADOX, a compact, protected-propeller reconnaissance and strike drone for infantry and Special Operations Forces. The drone is designed to fly inside buildings and trenches, to be operated by soldiers with no prior drone-piloting experience after minimal training, and to use a proprietary control console with low-detection encrypted communications. The company builds most of its hardware and software in-house and says its goal is to shift operational complexity from the operator to the technology.
Black Forest Systems is an early-stage company. Its team was reported at more than 25 people in March 2026 and it has been hiring since. In July 2026 it reported moving from development to production, with a first batch of 150+ drones in progress, and it received Brave1 funding. Its investors include Double Tap Investments, Front Ventures and Hede Capital Partners.
