About

Briefly Bio is a London-based techbio software company founded in 2022 by Katya Putintseva, Harry Rickerby and Staffan Piledahl, who previously worked together at LabGenius. The company builds software that helps laboratories capture, reproduce and share experimental work, addressing the reproducibility problem in preclinical research, where missing experimental detail makes results difficult for other scientists, data teams or automation teams to reuse.

The product uses AI to convert existing experiment descriptions into a consistent protocol format, automatically filling in missing details and flagging errors. The platform includes a protocol builder, a sample layout tool, an AI copilot that helps extract information from protocols and a shared workspace for teams. It is designed to work with lab automation, including liquid handling robots, so that assays can be prototyped without coding. In June 2025 a lab automation company announced a partnership with Briefly Bio, and in January 2026 a project was announced to connect the software and lab robots to an AI scientist to investigate gene delivery in plants.

Briefly Bio launched publicly in July 2024 with a $1.2M pre-seed round led by Compound VC, with participation from NP-Hard Ventures, Tiny VC and angel investors. The funding was earmarked for expanding operations and development. A GitHub-like public version of the platform for open sharing of scientific protocols is planned.
