About

Cailabs is a French deep-tech company based in Rennes that develops photonics and light-shaping systems. Its proprietary Multi-Plane Light Conversion (MPLC) technology, invented in 2010 by Jean-François Morizur and Nicolas Treps, underpins its products. The company was founded in 2013 by Jean-François Morizur and Guillaume Labroille. Its early product lines included PROTEUS for telecom fiber networks, CANUNDA for industrial laser processing, AROONA for local area networks, and TILBA for laser communications through the atmosphere.

Cailabs' current focus is optical ground stations (OGS) for satellite-to-ground laser communications, which use atmospheric turbulence compensation to enable high-throughput, low-latency links. Its products include the TILBA-OGS L10, the TILBA-LOS line-of-sight optical terminal, and OGS as a Service (OGSaaS), launched in September 2026. The company is also developing a transportable optical ground station with Gilat DataPath. Customers and partners named in the sources include SES, Kepler Communications, Swedish Space Corporation, CONTEC, Telesat, Eutelsat, Leaf Space, NTT and Durri Space, and it has more than 10 optical ground stations under contract. The French Armed Forces have used TILBA-LOS in exercises.

Cailabs serves the space, defense, telecommunications and industrial laser processing markets. It operates from Rennes, Paris and Arlington, Virginia, and has a US office for Department of Defense and US-based clients. Its Factory 27 manufacturing facility in Rennes, a 10,000 m² site, is intended to scale production to up to 50 optical ground stations per year by 2027-2028.
