About
Capalo AI is a Finnish sustainable technology company that uses AI-driven forecasting, optimisation and algorithmic trading to maximise the value of battery energy storage systems (BESS). Its core product, Capalo Zeus VPP, is a turnkey virtual power plant service that aggregates standalone and co-located batteries and renewable generation from multiple sites into one portfolio. The service covers prequalification and route-to-market access, automated trading across ancillary services (such as FCR, aFRR, mFRR, FFR and FCR-D) and wholesale intraday and spot markets, and Balance Responsible Party (BRP) and Balance Service Provider (BSP) services, along with revenue calculations to support financing and investment decisions.
The company's customers are battery owners, infrastructure investors, independent power producers and renewable developers, including Taaleri Energia, eNordic (Ardian's Nordic operating partner), MW Storage, Renewable Power Capital, European Energy, Olana Energy, E energija and NTR. Capalo says it has more than 1.7 GW of BESS capacity under contract, with 800 MW of BESS and 400 MWp of solar live under trading and optimisation across six countries (Finland, Sweden, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Bulgaria), and is expanding into Estonia, Romania, Greece, Spain and Portugal. Its agreements include Väre, Finland's largest battery-based virtual power plant, and it obtained its own Polish electricity trading licence in July 2026.
Capalo positions its software as essential to grid stability as wind and solar grow and demand from data centres and electric vehicles increases volatility. The company was founded in Kuopio in 2022 and reports around 70 to 75 employees. Its Series A round of EUR 11M in February 2026 was led by Heartcore Capital.
