Thermal satellite intelligence from space

About

constellr is a Munich-based space technology company that designs and operates a proprietary constellation of thermal infrared microsatellites — branded SkyBee — to deliver high-precision, decision-grade temperature intelligence from orbit. Founded in 2020 as a spin-out of the Fraunhofer Institute for High-Speed Dynamics in Freiburg, the company operates its High-Precision Versatile Ecosphere (HiVE) constellation in sun-synchronous orbit, providing absolute land surface temperature measurements at 30-metre native resolution with ±1–2 K calibrated accuracy, covering both day and night imaging.

constellr's technology serves a dual-use portfolio spanning defence and national security, maritime awareness, urban dynamics, industrial monitoring, and food and water security. Its thermal signatures reveal activity and heat patterns invisible to optical and radar sensors — including concealed military operations, vessel tracking, and infrastructure utilisation — making it a critical tool for European sovereign ISR. In 2022, an ISS demonstrator mission validated the core technology, and by early 2025 the company launched its first operational satellite, SkyBee-1, with a second following in June 2025.

The company holds European Space Agency Copernicus Contributing Mission status, a multi-year contract with the European Commission, a DLR contract signed in December 2024, and is backed by In-Q-Tel. In June 2026, constellr joined an Airbus Defence and Space-led sovereign ISR consortium alongside Rohde & Schwarz, Orbint, and HPS — a landmark partnership cementing its role in European defence space infrastructure. With approximately 110+ employees across offices in Munich, Freiburg, Berlin, Brussels, Toulouse, and Washington D.C., constellr has raised a total of €75 million to date.
