About
Deftak is a Ukrainian-Estonian defense technology startup developing high-precision, GPS-independent guided munitions for unmanned aerial vehicles. Its DFK/GME guided munition can be carried by fixed-wing UAVs from 3m wingspan up to heavy bombers, enabling reconnaissance platforms to become precision-strike assets without a dedicated launch aircraft. The system operates autonomously with onboard terminal guidance, making it resilient to electronic warfare and satellite navigation denial — critical vulnerabilities on modern battlefields.
Founded in August 2022 after winning the Drone Hackathon 1.0, the company was built by a multidisciplinary team combining a nuclear physicist, a world-class mathematician with Google and Facebook experience, and engineers from EPAM, Megogo, and other tech firms. The company formally incorporated in 2024 with legal entities in both Ukraine (Kyiv) and Estonia (Tallinn) to facilitate international partnerships. Deftak is a member of Brave1, Ukraine's defense technology cluster.
Deftak's munitions have been in active combat use with Ukrainian forces since early 2024, deployed across Ukrainian and European platforms. The system operates at altitudes up to 10 km, costs up to 10 times less than traditional precision munitions, and requires no acoustic warning signature. As of 2026, the team has scaled to approximately 20 engineers and is expanding production and integrations with manufacturers in Europe and the United States.
