EcoPals GmbH, trading as ecopals, is a Berlin-based company that develops materials for road construction. It was founded in 2021 by Jonas Varga and Fabian Zitzmann as a spin-off from the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology (ICT). The idea traces back to a student project in Nepal that examined the use of recycled plastic in road construction, and the Fraunhofer Venture spin-out programme and the Fraunhofer Technology Transfer Fund supported the founding.

The company's flagship product is EcoFlakes, a polymer modification for asphalt produced from non-recyclable recycled plastics. EcoFlakes replace virgin polymers and part of the bitumen in asphalt, reducing material costs and the use of primary raw materials. The company states that the additive can reduce bitumen costs by around 15 percent and the CO2 footprint of asphalt by up to 20 to 30 percent per production cycle. EcoFlakes can be used in all asphalt layers. Reported applications include a section of the A7 motorway in Schleswig-Holstein, a road in Berlin-Schöneberg, a first project in Bavaria, and a test in Darmstadt. In 2025 the company laid its first project in the United Kingdom, at Motherwell in North Lanarkshire, using about half a tonne of EcoFlakes in the surface course. Haufe reported more than 40 projects in seven countries.

ecopals also develops Simpal, an AI-based virtual materials laboratory that simulates material tests digitally, and uses its own software for material simulation. Its customers include asphalt producers and suppliers, construction companies and public road authorities. In 2024 the company raised a round of about 4 million euros from Companisto, the MHI Group and Après-demain, with total funding including grants reported at around 6 million euros. In 2025 it received the IRF Start-Up Label 2025 from the International Road Federation.
