About

EFFECT Photonics is a semiconductor company headquartered in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, that designs and manufactures monolithic indium phosphide (InP) laser assemblies for coherent optical communications. It started as a spin-off from Eindhoven University of Technology, around the idea of putting the complete optical subsystem of a coherent transceiver on a single InP photonic integrated circuit. The company has developed its own process development kit for in-house InP PICs and operates a fabless model supported by external wafer and supply chain partners.

The current product line includes the 14 dBm pico ITLA, a continuous-wave tunable laser for 100G ZR coherent transceivers in an ultra-small pico form factor, which is scheduled to ship in Q4 2026. The 17 dBm nano ITLA for 400G and 800G coherent transceivers is in development. The company targets telecom networks, data center interconnect and scale-across links, and adjacent photonic applications such as quantum systems. It holds 91 granted patents and 39 pending.

Earlier, the company offered low-cost tunable SFP+ modules for DWDM 5G radio access networks, and in 2023 VodafoneZiggo tested them on live Dutch networks. In March 2023 the company announced plans with Credo to co-develop coherent DSP merchant ICs. Its U.S. subsidiary, based in Maynard, Massachusetts, was renamed Arycs Technologies in September 2025. Leadership includes Jan van Tetering as CEO and Sophie De Maesschalck as CFO.

The company has raised several rounds from Dutch deep-tech and regional investors, including Innovation Industries, Invest-NL, PMT, PME, Smile Invest, btov Partners and BOM. A Series D round led by the Innovation Industries Strategic Partners Fund was announced in March 2024 at $38M and was extended by $24M in June 2025, bringing the round to $62M.
