Trapped-ion quantum computers via MAGIC technology

About

eleQtron GmbH, founded in 2020 as a spin-off from the Quantum Optics Chair at the University of Siegen, is Germany's first commercial quantum computing hardware manufacturer. The company develops and operates full-stack trapped-ion quantum computers using its proprietary MAGIC (Magnetic Gradient Induced Coupling) technology, which controls ion qubits via microwaves and radio-frequency fields rather than complex laser systems — enabling greater precision, robustness, and scalability.

eleQtron's systems target industrial and scientific applications including logistics, supply chain optimization, materials research, pharmaceuticals, and financial risk management. The company has sold quantum computers to major German research institutions including the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and Forschungszentrum Jülich, where its JION system is being integrated into the Jülich Supercomputing Centre's HPC infrastructure via JUNIQ. Its order backlog exceeds €54 million, placing it among the few quantum computing players with meaningful commercial traction.

Headquartered in Siegen with a second office in Hamburg, eleQtron employs over 100 international experts across more than 20 nationalities. The company has been recognized as a WEF Technology Pioneer 2025 and is participating in Germany's FullStaQD initiative — the country's largest effort to build an interoperable quantum software stack — as a hardware testbed provider. In May 2026, eleQtron closed one of the world's largest quantum computing Series A rounds, raising €57 million to scale production capacity and expand cloud-based access to its systems.
