About

Equal1 is an Irish quantum semiconductor company that develops quantum processors built in silicon using standard CMOS manufacturing processes at commercial foundries. Its UnityQ processor family uses silicon spin qubits with control electronics on the same chip, forming a hybrid quantum-classical silicon-on-chip architecture. The company was founded in 2017 as Equal1.labs, with origins in Fremont, California, and its chip design centre is located at NovaUCD in Dublin. It was spun out of University College Dublin and works with the Netherlands-based TNO on silicon spin-qubit technology.

Equal1's commercial product is the RacQ system, the successor to the Bell-1 quantum server unveiled in March 2025. RacQ is a rack-mounted quantum computer designed to fit a standard 19-inch data centre rack, drawing about 1,600 W from a standard power socket and using a closed-cycle cooler rather than dilution refrigerators. It is intended to run quantum, classical and hybrid workloads alongside existing CPUs and GPUs. Target applications include optimization, simulation, Monte Carlo risk modelling, materials and chemistry problems.

The company's customers and partners include the European Space Agency, which selected Equal1 in November 2025 to install a hybrid quantum computing system for Earth observation at its Space High Performance Compute Centre in Italy, and where RacQ was installed in July 2026. Equal1 has also signed agreements with NVIDIA, ICHEC, CeADAR, Cadence, Arm, Bull, Q-CTRL and Kvantify. It opened a centre of excellence in Sherbrooke, Canada in 2024 and has offices in Ireland, the Netherlands, Romania, Canada, the United States and Japan.

Equal1 raised $60 million (about EUR 51.5 million) in January 2026, led by the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund, bringing its reported total funding to over $85 million. The company has stated that the funding supports its transition from development to deployment, including global rollout of RacQ and advancement of its roadmap.
