SRAM-based chips for frontier AI inference

About

Fractile is a London-based AI hardware company founded in 2022 by Walter Goodwin, an Oxford-trained AI and robotics PhD, together with co-founder Yuhang Song. The company designs chips and systems for running large AI models at inference time, with the aim of generating output at thousands of tokens per second over very long context windows. Its approach fuses computation with memory, using in-memory compute built on SRAM, to address the memory-bandwidth bottleneck that limits inference speed on conventional GPUs. The design is intended to be compatible with leading-edge unmodified silicon foundry processes, and the company develops full-stack hardware spanning chips, systems and software.

Fractile exited stealth in July 2024 with a $15M seed round. In October 2024 it received a £5M award from the UK's Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA) under its Scaling Compute programme. In January 2025, former Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger invested in the company. In May 2026 Fractile closed a $220M Series B led by Accel, Factorial Funds and Founders Fund, which valued it at roughly $1B post-money. In February 2026 the company announced plans to invest £100M in UK operations over three years, including a hardware engineering facility in Bristol.

Fractile has an initial order from Anthropic worth about $250M for chips that are expected to be deployed in data centres from 2027. The company has not yet shipped a production chip. Share allotments filed at Companies House between September and October 2026 show about £577M of new Series C shares, and reports in August 2026 described talks to raise around $600M at a pre-money valuation of about $6.5B. The company has offices in London, Bristol, San Francisco and Taipei and employs roughly 140 people.
