About
Gallium Defense is a Paris-based French defence technology company, founded in April 2026, that designs and builds affordable 3D radar systems to detect and track drones, vehicles and vessels for critical infrastructure operators and armed forces. The company follows an affordable-mass approach, building radars largely from mass-produced commercial off-the-shelf components, with edge AI processing inside the radar and open APIs following NATO standards such as SAPIENT and ASTERIX.
Its first product, the GDS-10, is a software-defined, AI-native X-band active electronically scanned array radar designed to detect Class 1 and FPV drones at up to 10 km, with 360-degree azimuth and 90-degree elevation coverage, swarm tracking and day-and-night, all-weather operation. It can be mounted on a mast, roof, trailer or vehicle. A civil configuration serves airports, ports, energy sites and other critical infrastructure, and a defence configuration (GDS-10-M) serves armed forces. First open-air trials of the GDS-10 took place in October 2026, and orders are expected to open in the first quarter of 2027.
The company was co-founded by Eric Fournier (CEO), a former Boston Consulting Group partner, Florian Lemoine (CTO), previously of NATO and the French Directorate General of Armaments, and Robin Mandel (COO), formerly of Thales, Safran and BCG. It completed a €7.1 million seed round in June 2026, led by Keen Venture Partners and 360 Capital, with Omnes Capital and Polytechnique Ventures participating, and the round was announced publicly in November 2026 during European Defence Week. Proceeds are earmarked for industrialising production, hiring, AI model training and demonstrations. The company had no revenue yet and was in talks with six potential customers, aiming for about €6 million in orders in 2027. The company received the Bpifrance DeepTech label in September 2026.
