About

Ground A is a German defence tech company founded in January 2026, with headquarters in Düsseldorf and a second location in Berlin. The company develops the GA 1000 — a mobile, software-defined, high-energy laser system that detects, classifies, tracks and neutralises small and agile drones automatically. The platform combines radar, multi-sensor fusion, electro-optical and infrared sensors, computer vision, and proprietary AI with a laser effector on a fast pan-tilt platform, all within a Euro-pallet footprint weighing under 200 kg. Engagement decisions always remain with a human operator.

The GA 1000 is designed for rapid deployment across military and critical infrastructure scenarios — protecting troops, forward positions, airports, power plants, ports and public events. It integrates into existing air defence, command-and-control systems, and land-, sea- or air-based platforms rather than operating as a stand-alone solution. Ground A also offers a Defence-as-a-Service commercial model. The system is pitched as dramatically reducing cost-per-engagement compared to kinetic alternatives, with the laser's only ammunition being electricity.

Founded by a trio with deep backgrounds in laser manufacturing (TRUMPF), engineering (RWTH Aachen PhD), and software/robotics, Ground A moved from founding to prototype in just a few months. The team grew from 5 to 25 employees within six months and targets ~50 by year-end 2026. Series production in Germany is planned for 2027, with a next financing round targeted for the same year.
