About
HAT.tec – Human Autonomy Teaming Technologies is Europe's leading software company for platform-independent mission management of military and security-relevant operations. Founded in 2018 as a spin-off from the University of the Bundeswehr Munich's Institute of Flight Systems, the company was built by two doctoral aerospace engineers, Dr. Yannick Brand and Dr. Fabian Schmitt, together with Prof. Axel Schulte, after identifying a significant gap between academic research and industry solutions in human-autonomy teaming.
The company's flagship product, SCALE, is a modular and scalable mission management system developed to aviation standards. SCALE integrates data across platforms and domains — from aircraft, helicopters, and drones to ships and land-based vehicles — into a single operational picture, enabling efficient and effective decision-making even in highly dynamic environments. It combines human judgement with intelligent assistance to support seamless Human Autonomy Teaming (HAT) and Manned-Unmanned Teaming (MUM-T), and has been deployed in civilian, governmental, and military applications, including Bundeswehr light attack helicopters (H145M) and Bavarian Police helicopter fleets.
With around 70 employees in Neubiberg near Munich, HAT.tec serves security and defence forces across Europe. The company initially financed itself exclusively through project contracts, and in April 2025 received early-stage VC backing from Minna Invest, a prominent German family office investor. HAT.tec has established integrations with Airbus Helicopters, Smith Myers (ARTEMIS sensor fusion), and recently announced a strategic software partnership with defence-tech firm Project Q to combine SCALE and HYDRIS across multi-domain land, air, and maritime missions.
