About
HyLight is a French Y Combinator-backed company that builds the HyLighter, a 12-metre hybrid drone-airship powered by an electric engine with a hydrogen fuel cell. The aircraft is designed to inspect power lines, railways, gas pipelines and methane leaks from the air with zero direct emissions and low noise, flying for up to ten hours with a target range of about 350 km. It carries up to 10 kg of sensors, including LiDAR, cameras and methane detectors, and can be operated beyond visual line of sight via RF, LTE and satellite links. HyLight also develops AI software that analyses sensor data and identifies up to 50 types of infrastructure issues.
The company sells an inspection-as-a-service model to energy and transport operators. Sources say its aircraft are already flying missions for Enedis, NaTran, Téréga, VINCI and SNCF Réseau, and that a Téréga pilot covers about 107 km of gas pipelines. HyLight has said it obtained European flight certification and that the HyLighter is EASA-approved to fly over densely populated areas. Sources differ on fleet size, but as of October 2026 reports describe four aircraft in operation, mostly in France.
In October 2026 HyLight raised a €13M Series A to scale production, industrialise its fleet and build data infrastructure across Europe. The company plans at least 11 more airships and a goal of 15 operating simultaneously in 2027, with Germany and the Netherlands as next target markets.
