Electric motors with hollow-conductor cooling

About

hyperdrives GmbH is a deep-tech engineering company founded in 2021 and based in Munich, Germany, that develops electric drive systems, including electric motors and inverters, designed for high performance at low cost. Its core technology is hollow-conductor cooling, in which dielectric coolant flows directly through the hollow copper windings of a motor, removing heat at its source. This allows continuous current densities up to three times higher than conventional motors. Its motors are up to 50% smaller than state-of-the-art designs and use about 40% less material and cost, with fewer rare-earth magnets. The product lineup includes the Hyperdrives One for automotive, marine and industrial applications, the Ultra for aerospace and eVTOL uses, and the Pulse inverter. The company works with CISSOID, which supplies silicon carbide inverter control modules for its motors, and with FGB Fertigungsgerätebau Steinbach for manufacturing.

The company was founded by Robin Renz, Michael Numberger and Benjamin Hengstler, who combine motorsport and automotive experience. Hyperdrives has developed three product generations and reported revenue of over €1 million in 2024. Its customer pipeline includes commercial projects across automotive, aerospace and marine applications, and it targets electric propulsion for cars, aircraft, vessels and wind generators.

In September 2025 the company closed an oversubscribed €3 million pre-seed round led by Rethink Ventures, with participation from First Momentum Ventures, SDAC, Acequia Capital, 2100 Ventures, Prototype Capital and angel investors. The funds are being used to validate lifetime durability to automotive standards, accelerate go-to-market activities and prepare manufacturing for industrial-scale production. In 2026 the company opened a new headquarters and engineering facility in Munich's Obersendling district.
