About

Hypersonica is an Anglo-German defence and aerospace company developing next-generation hypersonic strike systems for military and civilian applications. Founded in December 2023 by University of Oxford PhD graduates and German nationals Dr. Philipp Kerth (CEO) and Dr. Marc Ewenz (CTO), the company is headquartered in Wessling in the Munich area, with a wholly owned subsidiary in London. Initially incubated by TUM Venture Labs, Hypersonica aims to equip European allies with a sovereign, cost-effective, maneuverable hypersonic strike capability.

The company's SCOOTER HS-1 demonstrator successfully completed Europe's first privately funded hypersonic test flight on 3 February 2026, at Andøya Space in northern Norway, exceeding Mach 6 and covering more than 300 km — achieved just nine months from initial design to launch. Hypersonica's modular architecture compresses development timelines from years to months and targets an 80% cost reduction versus conventional defence programmes, with a goal of delivering a full operational hypersonic strike capability by 2029.

The company's engineering and business teams are spread across its Munich-area HQ and its London subsidiary, employing approximately 50 people. Backed by leading European and US defence-tech investors including Plural, SPRIND, General Catalyst, and 201 Ventures, Hypersonica has raised a total of approximately €25.8 million across its seed and Series A rounds and is targeting NATO member states seeking deep precision strike capabilities.
