About
InSpacePropulsion Technologies GmbH (ISPTech) is a DLR (German Aerospace Center) spin-off founded in 2023 by Dr. Lukas Werling and Dr. Felix Lauck, building cost-effective, robust, and rapidly deliverable in-space propulsion systems for spacecraft ranging from CubeSats to large capsules and landers. The company's product portfolio centres on two core technologies: HyNOx, a green hybrid propulsion system for CubeSats to SmallSats offering thrust levels from 1 N to 200 N using easy-to-handle, non-toxic propellants; and HIP_11, a high-performance hypergolic propellant (high-concentration hydrogen peroxide + ionic liquid fuel) for larger spacecraft, offering similar specific impulse to conventional toxic hypergolics but with significantly reduced hazards and higher density.
ISPTech's technologies are grounded in more than 10 years of R&D and over 40 years of combined founder experience at DLR's Institute of Space Propulsion, including thousands of hot-fire tests under atmospheric and vacuum conditions. The HIP_11 22N thruster reached TRL 5 in mid-2025 following successful vacuum testing with DLR, and the company's HyNOx 4U CubeSat Propulsion Module entered flight configuration ahead of a 2026 launch. ISPTech has also launched a Cold Gas CubeSat Propulsion Module and holds 7+ patents filed during its founders' time at DLR.
Customers and partners include ATMOS Space Cargo, The Exploration Company (Nyx capsule), and BINAR Space Program (lunar mission). In 2026, ISPTech and IENAI Space announced a collaboration to develop Europe's first multi-mode propulsion system combining HIP_11 chemical propulsion with IENAI's electric propulsion for defence and commercial missions. The company is headquartered in Ludwigsburg Industriezentrum and also operates at the DLR test site in Lampoldshausen, one of Europe's largest rocket-engine test facilities.
