About

Kasvu Therapeutics is a Helsinki-based drug development company spun out of the University of Helsinki in 2023. It develops small-molecule neuroplastogens, positive allosteric modulators of the TrkB receptor, designed to promote neuroplasticity for neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders such as depression, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. The company says its compounds enhance the pathways linked to the rapid, long-lasting antidepressant effects of psychedelics while avoiding engagement of 5-HT2A, the receptor responsible for hallucinations.

The lead programme, KTX-0141, is described as a potent, highly selective TrkB PAM with robust neuroplasticity, strong CNS penetration and drug-like properties in preclinical studies, with no evidence of hallucinogenic activity in industry-standard models. It is advancing through IND/CTA-enabling studies, with clinical development in major depressive disorder planned to begin in the second half of 2027. The science builds on work by Eero Castrén and Ilpo Vattulainen's groups at the University of Helsinki, including a 2023 Nature Neuroscience study on TrkB and psychedelics.

In September 2026 Kasvu announced a €30M Series A led by Hadean Ventures, with participation from Tesi, Innovestor Life Science Fund, Nordic Science Investments, the Finnish Drug Discovery Center, Stephen Industries and University of Helsinki Funds. The company describes it as the largest Series A ever raised by a Finnish drug development company. The team includes former executives from Novartis, Roche, Eli Lilly, AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Orion Pharma.
