About
Keybotic is a Barcelona-based robotics company founded in 2020 by Irene Gómez and Hilario Tomé. It designs and builds Keyper, an autonomous quadruped robot dog for industrial inspections. The robot can navigate stairs, gravel, pipes and uneven terrain, detect gas and vapour leaks, read analogue instruments, create 3D maps of facilities, and send real-time alerts to supervisors. Robots can also coordinate with each other in fleets. The company's technology traces back to its win of the first prize in the US DARPA Robotics Challenge subterranean autonomy competition, which the founders have cited as the basis for their early development.
Keybotic sells its robots under a Robot-as-a-Service (RaaS) model. Its customers are industrial operators, initially in the chemical sector, with clients including Carburos Metálicos, BASF and Kao Chemicals. The company also serves oil and gas, mining, energy, ports and critical infrastructure. In 2023 it raised €3 million in a seed round led by Spanish family offices. In 2024 it received a Eureka Eurostars grant for multi-robot fleet orchestration and computer vision work, and it won the Start-up with the Greatest Potential award at the EmprendeXXI awards in Catalonia. The company reported purchase orders of around €500,000 for 2023 and set a 2024 target of about €1 million, with first deliveries of roughly ten robots that year.
In January 2026 Keybotic was acquired by Helsing, a Munich-based defence technology company. The acquisition brought Keybotic's robotics work into Helsing's autonomous defence portfolio, and Keybotic's Barcelona operations are expected to become a robotics software and AI development unit within Helsing.
