About
kiutra GmbH is a Munich-based deep-tech company that develops cryostats and cryogenic services for quantum technologies. It was founded in 2018 as a spin-off of the Technical University of Munich by Alexander Regnat, Jan Spallek, Tomek Schulz and Christian Pfleiderer. The company's systems use continuous adiabatic demagnetization refrigeration (cADR), a magnetic cooling method that reaches sub-kelvin and millikelvin temperatures using paramagnetic solids rather than helium-3.
The product line includes the L-Type Rapid, a fast-feedback characterization cryostat with automated sample loading, the X-Type, a modular helium-3-free cooling architecture designed to scale cooling power and payload independently for superconducting and spin qubit systems, and the T-Type Optical, a 4 K optical cryostat for trapped-ion quantum computing R&D. kiutra also offers Measurement as a Service, where customers send samples for cryogenic measurements, and a Characterization Lab in Munich where users can run their own experiments on an L-Type Rapid.
kiutra states that more than 40 systems are in operation across three continents, serving academic research groups, research organizations, quantum startups, corporate R&D and big tech customers. The company has reported 66 granted and pending patents and a team of 73. Its investors include High-Tech Gründerfonds, NovaCapital, 55 North, APEX Ventures, TRUMPF Venture and Verve Ventures, and it has received public research funding including a €4M EIC Accelerator grant in 2024.
