Autonomous uncrewed surface vessels for defence

About

Kraken Technology Group designs and manufactures high-performance autonomous uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) and subsurface vessels for defence, security, critical infrastructure, and commercial maritime applications. Founded in 2020 by Mal Crease — a former world-championship offshore powerboat racer — the company's engineering team was forged in the pressure of competitive racing and applies that discipline to its K-class platform range, including the K3 Scout, K4 Manta, K5 Kraken, and K7 Sabre. Platforms are built to operate in contested environments at Sea State 5+, with modular payload bays supporting ISR, force protection, precision strike, logistics, and inspection missions.

Kraken's vessels are in service with NATO members, the UK Ministry of Defence (including a £12.3M Royal Navy contract for 20 K3 Scout USVs under Project Beehive), and the US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), which awarded Kraken a $49M Other Transaction Authority (OTA) contract in November 2025. In April 2026, Kraken announced a strategic partnership with Anduril Industries to manufacture and integrate the K5 Kraken and K7 Sabre in the United States, cementing the company's position in the US defence market. Series production of the K3 Scout is also underway at Rheinmetall's Blohm+Voss site in Hamburg.

The company reached unicorn status in July 2026, closing a $175M Series B led by Digital Transformation Capital Partners (DTCP) at a $1 billion valuation. Kraken is headquartered in Fareham, UK, with a growing US subsidiary and manufacturing partnerships in Germany and Canada. Its advisory board includes senior figures such as former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Admiral Lord West.
