About
Maple Aviation is a company based in Ottobrunn, near Munich, that was founded in 2022. It develops and operates autonomous cargo drones for time-critical medical logistics. Its flagship Maple Octave delivery system is designed to transport blood samples, laboratory specimens, tissue, pharmaceuticals and other urgent medical payloads point-to-point between clinics, laboratories and central hospitals. The battery-powered electric drones carry payloads of up to 10 kilograms at speeds of around 90 km/h and are designed for operation over densely populated areas under EASA and medical-grade requirements.
The company targets hospitals and hospital networks, medical laboratories and pathology centers, blood banks and transfusion services, and healthcare logistics operators. Its system includes autonomous flight control, redundant systems, GNSS-independent navigation and a hospital window adapter for deliveries. In May 2025 the German Federal Aviation Office (LBA) granted the company SAIL II operational authorization for beyond-visual-line-of-sight flights. More than ten hospitals and laboratories in Bavaria, including LMU Klinikum, Klinikum rechts der Isar and Klinikum Ingolstadt, have committed to the platform, and the company collaborates with the European Space Agency.
Maple Aviation closed a €4 million seed round in June 2026, led by Bayern Kapital and ES Kapital with participation from business angels and superangels. The company also receives grant support from the Bavarian government and the European Space Agency, and in 2025 it became part of the MEDIC project with Fraunhofer IVI and Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt, which is funded with €2.2 million by the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs through 2027. The company aims to land its first paying customer by the end of 2026 and to begin commercial rollout in late 2027.
