About
Marine Alpha is a Danish unmanned surface vessel (USV) company headquartered in Copenhagen, founded in 2025 as a portfolio company of Bifrost Defence, a Copenhagen-based defence venture studio. The company builds modular, scalable USVs for defence, industry, and research, with two core platforms: the MA3, a compact 3.13 m electric vessel designed for high-volume serial production, and the MA8, an 8 m diesel-powered long-range vessel with 250–650 NM endurance and up to 300 kg payload. Both platforms are designed around standardised components, tooling, and assembly processes, enabling rapid deployment and local production in a customer's country.
Marine Alpha's technology stack is built on the Bluedrones platform, which was acquired by Bifrost Defence in late 2025 from founder Mathieu Frilet, who had spent 20 years developing unmanned maritime systems at Airbus Helicopters before spinning out independently. The company's integration-first philosophy allows customers to use the full Marine Alpha system, add their own sensors and payloads, or integrate their own autonomy and command software via standardised interfaces. The MA3 has been validated in the water and was tested alongside the Marine Technology Centre of Sweden and the Royal Swedish Navy in Karlskrona in mid-2026.
Marine Alpha's primary customers include ministries of defence and armed forces seeking scalable USV fleets and local production capability, prime contractors and shipbuilders looking to integrate USVs into larger platforms, technology companies wanting a ready-made vessel for sensors and software, and research institutions requiring affordable platforms for maritime autonomy research. The company is 100% owned by Bifrost Defence A/S and is part of a broader effort to build a pan-European defence technology ecosystem with wartime urgency.
