About

Meteomatics AG is a weather intelligence company headquartered in St. Gallen, Switzerland, with additional offices in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway and Spain. It was founded in 2012 by Martin Fengler, who holds a doctorate in mathematics focused on numerical weather prediction. The company offers a Weather API that aggregates more than 1,800 parameters from over 110 weather models, sources and observation networks, with historical data from 1940 and forecasts to 2100. Its proprietary EURO1k and US1k models provide hourly updates at 1 km and 15-minute temporal resolution, using a custom 4D-Var data assimilation process. The company also offers MetX, a web and mobile platform for weather visualization, along with energy forecasts for wind, solar and hydropower and weather alerts.

Meteomatics develops and operates its own autonomous weather drones, called Meteodrones, which collect atmospheric data up to 6 km above ground, including beyond visual line of sight, and whose observations are integrated into its forecast models. The Meteoglider product recovers and reuses radiosondes. Its customers include energy companies, utilities, insurers, aviation operators, automotive manufacturers and government agencies. Named clients include Tesla, Airbus, Toyota, NASA, UK Power Networks and Axpo. In 2024 the company acquired R2Home and its glidersonde technology.

The company reports more than 600 corporate and institutional customers and about 170 employees. Its work with the U.S. National Weather Service through NOAA's National Mesonet Program, a U.S. Navy maritime drone pilot and a partnership with NASA on launch weather forecasting have been publicly documented. In 2025 the company raised a $22M Series C round led by Armira Growth and expanded its operations in the United States, where it opened a New York City headquarters.
