Millimeter-wave radar for small drone detection

About

Milliray (formerly DroneTector) is a UK-based airspace security company building millimeter-wave radar systems engineered to detect, track, and classify small and low-signature drones that conventional counter-UAS sensors consistently miss — from $50 consumer quadcopters to autonomous swarms. The company's flagship sensor stack, DroneTector, combines mm-wave radar with camera and acoustic arrays, using convolutional neural networks on Doppler return data to separate real threats from birds and environmental clutter in real time, all-weather, 24/7.

Founded by three Royal Academy of Engineering Enterprise Fellows with PhDs from Oxford and St Andrews, Milliray targets three core verticals: airports (perimeter and approach-path coverage to prevent runway closures), critical infrastructure (distributed mesh deployments at substations, refineries, and data centers), and defense (rapid-deploy, vehicle-mount field-grade radar for forward operating bases). Systems can be deployed standalone at a single site or networked into a multi-site detection grid with onboard edge compute for low-latency classification.

Milliray participated in Y Combinator's Winter 2026 batch and is backed by Y Combinator, Pioneer Fund, NATO DIANA, and the UK Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA). The company has a team of three and is headquartered in London, UK.
