About

Milrem Robotics, established in 2013 and headquartered in Tallinn, Estonia, is the world-leading developer of robotics and autonomous systems for military applications. The company grew out of SEBE, a bus maintenance firm, after winning a Ministry of Defence contract to maintain armoured vehicles, and pivoted fully to robotics. Its flagship product, the THeMIS multi-mission unmanned ground vehicle (UGV), is the world's most widely used UGV, deployed by 20 countries including nine NATO members. The company also produces the Type-X Robotic Combat Vehicle (RCV), the HAVOC 8×8 RCV, the VECTOR tracked UGV, and the ARCOS command suite for collaborative robotic operations.

Milrem's systems are combat-proven in active conflict, having been deployed by Estonian forces in Mali and by Ukrainian forces against Russia since late 2022 — making THeMIS the first UGV used in a full-scale war. The company's Milrem Intelligent Function Integration Kit (MIFIK) adds autonomous operation capabilities to both manned and unmanned ground vehicles. Milrem also leads major European Defence Fund programmes, including the original iMUGS consortium and its successor iMUGS2, which secured ~€50 million in EDF funding in 2025 to develop next-generation modular UGSs across a 29-partner, 15-nation consortium.

Milrem operates a production facility in Tallinn capable of manufacturing over 500 THeMIS units per year, alongside offices in Finland, Sweden, the Netherlands, Poland, the UAE, and the USA. The company is majority-owned (50%) by UAE state defence group EDGE Group following a 2023 acquisition, with Krauss-Maffei Wegmann holding a 24.9% minority stake acquired in 2021. Remaining shares are held by founder Kuldar Väärsi and Estonian private investors.
