Large-area nanoimprint lithography for AR optics

About

Morphotonics is a Dutch deeptech company based in Veldhoven, in the Brainport region of Eindhoven, that develops large-area nanoimprint lithography (NIL) platforms. Its roll-to-plate and large-area systems press micro- and nanoscale patterns into a liquid resin coating with a mould, then cure the resin with UV light, allowing the same structures to be replicated with sub-100 nm precision across large surfaces at high throughput. The company offers hardware, process know-how and proprietary materials, and its stated mission is to push the boundaries of consumer electronics visual experiences.

The company's main application is manufacturing AR smart-glass waveguides and other optical components for displays, including glasses-free 3D screens, anti-glare and privacy screen layers, and nano-optics. Its Cypris platform, a fully automated modular system, is designed for high-volume waveguide production, and in November 2025 it introduced the Cypris X700 as a high-volume manufacturing system. Customers and partners include Leia Inc., Jupiter Spatial Reality, Moveon and device and component makers in China, Taiwan, the United States and Europe. Its equipment is reported to be used in Meta Ray-Ban Display, Even Realities and Magic Leap hardware. Hardware accounts for most of its revenue, and the company stated that its revenue tripled in 2025 compared with 2024.

In September 2026 Morphotonics closed a Series B of more than €40 million, with participation from 3M Ventures, Innovation Industries, BOM, Invest-NL, the EIC Fund, Ernij Next and the European Investment Bank, including a €20 million convertible loan from the EIB. The funding is intended to expand Cypris production capacity and to enter optical components for data-centre co-packaged optics. Hugo da Silva became CEO in October 2024, succeeding Jan Matthijs ter Meulen as chief executive.
