About

Motif Neurotech is a Houston-based therapeutic brain-computer interface (BCI) company developing minimally invasive bioelectronics for mental health. It was formed through the Rice Biotech Launch Pad from research at Rice University, and its wireless, magnetoelectric power and data technology was developed there. The company's lead product is the DOT (Digitally-Programmable Overbrain Therapeutic) microstimulator, a pea-sized implant designed to be placed in a 20-minute outpatient procedure, aimed at rebalancing brain activity in patients with treatment-resistant depression.

In April 2026 Motif received FDA approval of an Investigational Device Exemption for the RESONATE Early Feasibility Study, its first clinical trial, which will evaluate the wirelessly powered Motif XCS System in patients with treatment-resistant depression. The company also said it was selected for an ARPA-H behavioral health program. Its patient registry launched in December 2025.

Motif has a UK government award from ARIA's Precision Neurotechnologies program to develop a broader platform for monitoring and regulating mental and cognitive states. In April 2026 it announced a strategic partnership with UK semiconductor spinout MintNeuro, which supplies neural sensing and stimulation chips for its implant platform.
