About
NEWT21 is a Latvian high-technology manufacturer specializing in the design, engineering, and serial production of Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs) and advanced composite solutions. Founded in January 2025 by Jānis Garisons — a former State Secretary of Latvia's Ministry of Defence — the company operates one of the largest composite manufacturing plants in the Baltic States, leveraging in-house autoclave production of carbon-fiber and aramid-fiber (Kevlar) composite hulls.
The company's two flagship platforms are the FOG and RAY USVs. The FOG is a high-speed tactical USV (up to 86 km/h) optimized for stealth reconnaissance, surveillance, interception, and kamikaze strike operations, offered in 3.6–5.4 m configurations with up to 900 km range. The RAY is a larger catamaran-hulled platform designed for autonomous logistics, MEDEVAC, mine countermeasures, and drone mothership duties, carrying up to 500 kg payload at up to 78 km/h over 700 km. Both platforms support swarm operations — with a single Ground Control Station commanding up to 32 USVs simultaneously — and feature anti-jamming GPS, inertial navigation, and satellite communications.
NEWT21's RAY USV has seen active combat validation in Ukraine's Black Sea operations, and both platforms have been demonstrated at NATO's Steadfast Dart 2026 exercise and the multinational Task Force X-Central Mediterranean exercise in Puglia, Italy alongside US, Italian, Latvian, Slovenian, and Croatian forces. In August 2026, NEWT21 completed an EU-funded project (co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund) to bring both platforms to Technology Readiness Level 8, enabling standardized serial production and commercial market rollout. The company targets EU and NATO end-users as well as smaller nations seeking cost-effective autonomous maritime defense capabilities.
