About

Nu Quantum is a Cambridge, UK-based company developing quantum networking hardware and software that connects separate quantum processors into a single distributed quantum computer. Founded in 2018 as a spin-out of the University of Cambridge's Cavendish Laboratory to commercialise research on quantum photonics, the company builds the Entanglement Fabric, a modular networking layer that uses photonic interconnects to link qubits across processors. Its products include Qubit-Photon Interfaces that adapt to different qubit modalities and the Quantum Networking Unit, a rack-mounted, datacentre-compatible module for real-time entanglement distribution that was launched in June 2025.

The company has worked on government-backed projects, including LYRA with Cisco for a modular quantum data centre prototype, Project IDRA with the National Quantum Computing Centre, and Project HyperIon under Innovate UK's Quantum Missions Pilot with the University of Sussex, Cisco and Infineon. In 2025 it launched the Quantum Datacenter Alliance with companies including Cisco, NTT Data, Oxford Quantum Circuits, QphoX, Quantinuum and QuEra. In 2026 it opened a trapped-ion networking laboratory in Cambridge, signed a memorandum of understanding with Atom Computing on neutral-atom networking, and announced a Spanish subsidiary focused on quantum networking and photonic infrastructure.

Nu Quantum has offices in Cambridge and Los Angeles and a team of roughly 100 across these sites and Spain. Its $60 million Series A, closed in December 2025 and led by National Grid Partners, was the largest quantum Series A in the UK to date, and the Spanish government's SETT invested EUR 9.75 million as part of the round. Earlier investors include Amadeus Capital Partners, IQ Capital, Ahren Capital and Seraphim Capital. The company targets the scaling of quantum computers to fault-tolerant, utility-scale systems for quantum computing infrastructure and datacentres.
