About

Nuclera is a Cambridge, UK biotechnology company founded in 2013 at the University of Cambridge. It develops the eProtein Discovery system, an automated benchtop platform that combines cell-free protein synthesis with digital microfluidics to screen constructs, solubility tags and expression conditions in parallel. The company says the system delivers assay-ready protein, including membrane proteins, in about 48 hours, and it offers the instrument, cartridges, reagents, software, expression and purification services, and antibody services.

Nuclera's customers are protein scientists in academia and drug discovery. Its website cites a VIB-KU Leuven research group and reports more than 1,000 proteins produced. The company is expanding eProtein Discovery into full-format antibody expression, purification and binding validation, which it presents as a step toward AI-enabled protein engineering and high-throughput datasets for biologics discovery.

Nuclera has operations in Cambridge, UK (global HQ, opened 2023) and Billerica, Massachusetts, US, where it runs R&D and cartridge manufacturing. Its Series C was $75M in October 2024, extended by $12M to $87M in January 2026. Third-party sources report roughly 116 employees and that the company was formerly known as Nuclera Nucleics.
