About

Odysseus Space is a Luxembourg-based space communications company founded in 2019 that develops space-to-ground laser communication systems. Its flagship product, Cyclops, is an optical communication terminal for installation on satellites, paired with optical ground stations and offered as a Laser Communication as a Service (LCaaS) model that gives satellite operators access to high-volume data transfer between orbit and Earth, with data rates of up to 10 Gbps. Its primary customers have been commercial satellite constellation operators. Its roots trace back to 2016 activity in Taiwan. The company moved into a new 1,000-square-metre facility in Belvaux in September 2026 that includes its own laboratory and clean room.

Development has been supported by the European Space Agency and the Luxembourg Space Agency, including a €5.3 million LuxIMPULSE contract in 2021. The company has delivered its first flight model, which is being integrated into a satellite in Germany ahead of a planned SpaceX launch in February 2027, and plans to deploy its first optical ground station in Spain. Its partnerships include Leaf Space for a hybrid optical-RF ground station network, Reflex Aerospace for an in-orbit demonstration of its Cyclops-DTE terminal, Creotech Instruments and CONTEC through memoranda of understanding, and NICT and the University of Luxembourg through collaborative research.

Since 2024 the company has expanded into defence and dual-use applications. It has been selected for five European Defence Fund projects (AVALON, LUCID, OPTIMAS, EOBLINDING and RESIST), totalling €5.2 million in EDF-related funding, including work on optical dazzling technology to degrade non-cooperative Earth observation satellites and on resilient defence semiconductor design. In December 2025 it was selected for the 2026 cohort of NATO's DIANA accelerator.
