About
Open Cosmos is a European space infrastructure company founded in 2015 and headquartered at Harwell in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom, with operating bases in Spain, Portugal and Greece. It designs, builds, launches and operates satellites, offering end-to-end satellite missions through its OpenOrbit service, from satellite assembly, integration and testing through launch campaigns, in-orbit operations, data delivery, insurance and licensing. Its shared Earth observation infrastructure, OpenConstellation, lets multiple organisations access satellite data, and its DataCosmos cloud platform provides access to full resolution satellite imagery with analytics tools.
The company is developing ConnectedCosmos, a low Earth orbit constellation combining satellite broadband with direct-to-device IoT over a secure, sovereign network. In 2026 it announced a core constellation of 192 satellites, with more than 96 targeted in orbit by the end of 2028. Its OpenConstellation 1.0 next-generation Earth observation satellites were launched in July 2026 and are designed to reduce delivery of Earth observation intelligence from up to 48 hours to as little as 30 minutes. The company has four satellite production facilities across Europe, with capacity to manufacture one satellite per day, and in 2026 it was selected as an approved provider for the UK Government Commercial Agency's sovereign communications framework.
Open Cosmos serves governments, space agencies and energy and infrastructure companies. Its customers and partners have included the European Space Agency, the Spanish Space Agency, the UK Space Agency, Astroscale, Panasonic and Infinite Orbits. In October 2025 it was selected to lead the Spanish component of the Atlantic Constellation. The company has delivered five consecutive years of profitable growth and has reported more than $370 million in contracts signed over the past three and a half years. In its Greek operation, Open Cosmos Aegean launched Hyperion GR-1 in July 2026 as the first of seven satellites for the National Microsatellite Programme, and in October 2026 it announced plans to grow its Greek workforce eightfold by 2030.
