About
Orbem is a Munich-based deep tech company founded in 2019 as a spin-off from the Technical University of Munich. It industrializes magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) by combining it with advanced AI to deliver non-invasive, sub-second biological insights at industrial scale. Its flagship products — the Genus Focus and Genus Scale — scan poultry eggs to determine sex and fertilization status without any human in the loop, enabling hatcheries to eliminate the culling of billions of male chicks annually. The company has scanned over 170 million eggs across five European countries and is the first and only company to demonstrate MRI operating in under one second at industrial throughput.
Beyond poultry, Orbem is expanding its platform into fruits and vegetables (detecting internal defects in avocados, mangoes, and watermelons non-destructively) as well as nuts, seeds, and human health applications. Its core technology generates proprietary biological datasets that the company views as a long-term strategic moat for applying AI to healthcare and food security challenges at a global scale.
Orbem is operational in Germany, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, and the United States (with an office in Houston, TX). The company has received recognition including Sifted Top 100 AI Rising Startup (2025), LinkedIn Top Startup (2024), and the Bayern Innovationspreis (2024). With over 200 employees and a Series B raise of €55.5M in January 2025, Orbem is accelerating its US expansion and entry into the multi-billion-dollar produce market.
