About
OXCCU is a climate technology company spun out of the University of Oxford in 2021 to commercialise catalyst and reactor research developed there over roughly a decade. It develops a patented, multifunctional iron-based Fischer-Tropsch catalyst that converts carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and hydrogen directly into jet-fuel-range hydrocarbons in a single step, avoiding the reverse water gas shift step used in conventional two-step routes. Its technology is offered as Power-to-Liquids, biogas-to-liquids and gasification-to-liquids pathways under the OXPTL, OXGTL and OXGAS names, plus OXSYN for synthesis gas, and the company also offers light engineering packages.
The company operates its OX1 demonstration plant at London Oxford Airport, which was commissioned in September 2024 with a capacity of about 1 kg of liquid fuel per day. A second plant, OX2, was under way in 2025 and was expected to be fully operational in 2026, and a first-of-a-kind plant at Saltend Chemicals Park in the Humber was announced in 2024. Target products include sustainable aviation fuel, petrochemicals such as surfactants and synthetic lubricants, and biodegradable plastics. Third-party techno-economic modelling indicated roughly 50% lower capital costs and 25% lower fuel costs compared with RWGS plus Fischer-Tropsch routes.
Investors include IP Group through Kiko Ventures, Clean Energy Ventures, Aramco Ventures, Eni Next, United Airlines Ventures, Braavos Capital, IAGi Ventures, Safran Corporate Ventures, Orlen VC, Hostplus and the University of Oxford. The $22.7M Series A in June 2023 was led by Clean Energy Ventures, and the £20.75M ($28M) Series B in September 2025 was oversubscribed. The company has also received UK government grants, including from the Advanced Fuels Fund and the Aerospace Technology Institute, and was named to the 2026 Global Cleantech 100 list.
